Illustration Québec brings together, champions and defends the illustrators of Québec.
We are committed to taking a clear stance on the rise of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). We stand for human creation in all its flaws, its uniqueness and its sincerity. We oppose the replacement of the artist by GenAI.
We oppose the use of works of illustration to train artificial intelligence systems without the consent, credit and fair compensation of the artists concerned. For Illustration Québec, the use of GenAI cannot be ethical in a creative context as long as this technology fails to respect copyright — the very principle underlying illustrators’ compensation and the protection of their artistic heritage. We also encourage transparency in the use of these technologies, so that the public and clients can make informed choices.
Our commitments to our members and the public:

• Promoting transparency about the origin of images.
• Informing and equipping our members and the public to face the challenges of AI.
• Carrying illustrators’ voices on these issues within the cultural community and before government bodies and agencies.
Artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly: this stance may be refined over time, and we remain attentive to our members and the community.

All members who publish in this directory agree not to post images generated in whole or in part by generative artificial intelligence tools.
Illustration Québec is a non-profit organization with limited means: we cannot review every portfolio in our directory upon entry. Should this condition be breached, IQ nevertheless reserves the right to remove the content in question and, where applicable, to suspend the offending account.
